
John McRae worked in over 70 countries in a wide-ranging career covering teaching, writing, and theatre. He is the author of many significant books including The Language of Poetry, Wordsplay, Using Drama in the Classroom, and with Ronald Carter, both The Routledge History of Literature in English and The Penguin Guide to English Literature. He retired in 2017 after 20-plus years as Special Professor of Language in Literature Studies at the University of Nottingham, UK, and now lives in London and works in theatre as a director, actor, and writer.
